The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The line graph illustrates the usage of six types of energy source by the United States from the year of 1980 with the future projection till 2030. Data is given in the unit of Quadrillion units.
Overall, it is clear that Petrol and Oil remained as the most consumed energy over the years, while the least used power sources were from the natural resources. Moreover, it is predicted that most of the energy consumption will continue to rise until 2030.
The historical trends showed the most consumed energy Petrol and Oil, increased from 35 units to 40 units between 1980 and 2015, and such increase is expected to continue with a greater scale, reaching almost 50 units by 2030. Starting some 20 units, the usage of Coal and Natural Gas were practically identical in 1980. Followed by some fluctuation until 2015, while the figure of Coal is expected to be have a double rise by 2030, it is projected that Natural Gas consumption will remain constant at 22 units by the end of the period.
Meanwhile, in stark contrast to the high consumption of Petrol and Oil, the figures for nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower were persistently low, with less than 10 units over the whole period. Slight rises are expected for the former two types, whereas a gentle decline is anticipated for the application of hydropower, whereby standing at some 7% and 2% respectively by 2030.
