Overall, the proportion of city dwellers in four countries increases over the surveyed period with Malaysia and Indonesia being the nations with the highest figure.
There was a similarity in the percentage of city inhabitants in the Philipines and Malaysia in 1970, at approximately 30%. This shared figure continued to witness a slight rise of almost 20% over the next 20 years before the Philippines' population is projected to reach a peak at above 80% in 2040. Similarly, the proportion of citizens in Malaysia is expected to rise to around 55% in the same year.
Both Thailand and Indonesia experienced a growth of about 15% in the population percentage from 1970 to 2000.
