The graph compares the proportion of population in Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia who living in urban areas between 1970 and 2040.
It is clear that population in four countries are expected to increase in the mentioned period. Malaysia was seen the highest rise at the end.
In 1970, the percentage of the population living in cities of four Asian countries were 14%, 18% for Indonesia and Thailand respectively, while 30% and 31% for Malaysia and Philippines respectively. After the following 50 years all three countries saw the increase in their population, expect to Philippines decreased the number of people who live in big cities in the period from 1990 to 2010.
After 2010, four countries in Asia increased the city dwellers but Indonesia and Malaysia are two countries that have the significant increase compared to two other countries in the same area. At the end of period Malaysia have about 85% people live in urban area, while the figure for Indonesia was around 60%, approximate 4 times increase. Between 2010 and 2040, population living in cities of Thailand and Philippines are expected to rise but in lower rate at 45% and 52% respectively.
