The graph below gives information about the percentage of people living in Australia who were born in Asia, the UK, and other regions.
The line graph displays the percentage of residents in Australia from Asia, the UK and other regions from 1976 and 2011.
In general, the total percentage of people coming from the examined regions saw an upward trend throughout the period. Whilst the percentage of UK citizens in Australia decreased overtime, that of Asia and other regions experienced a growth.
In 1976, about 23% of Australian residents are from all three areas. This figure declined in to just over 20% in 2001, before rising sharply to 25% at the end of the period. Asia saw the fastest growth with the number for this particular area increasing from just about 3% in 1976 to 15% in 2011.
Following a period of decrease to nearly 8% in 1981, the percentage of Australian people born in other areas surged to its all-time high of almost 15% in 2006 before dropping to around 13% in 2011. Meanwhile, the UK population is the only sector to experience a downward trajectory its number dwindling from approximately 14% in 1976 to its all-time low of 5% in 2011.
