The line graph depicts the individual carbon emissions in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, the amount of gas emitted rose in Portugal and Italy but fell in Sweden and the United Kingdom.
On the one hand, Italy and Portugal have recorded a growth of CO2 release in the atmosphere. Specifically, despite slightly fluctuating, the release of the gas in Italy doubled from 4 to 8 metric tonnes while in Portugal, it tripled from 1.5 to 4.5 metric tonnes.
On the other hand, the United Kingdom and Sweden witnessed a levelling off in the discharge rate of carbon dioxide. Although Sweden reached a peak of over 10 metric tonnes in 1977, it dramatically dropped to 7 metric tonnes in 10 years. After the sharp decline, the trend remained and it fell to 5 metric tonnes in 2007. In contrast to the varied records from Sweden, the United Kingdom experienced a steady fall of 2 metric tonnes, from eleven metric tonnes to 9 metric tonnes.
