The graph below shows the average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
The given line graph provides a comparison of the amount of carbon footprint per capita exhausted in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal over a 40-year period.
From an overall perspective, it is apparent that the volume of carbon dioxide per person in Italy and Portugal witnessed an upward trend whereas the reversed pattern should be observed for these numbers in Sweden and United Kingdom.
According to the data in the diagram, in the beginning, the United Kingdom and Sweden hosted the first and the second rank in emitting carbon dioxide per person, which was more than 10 metric tonnes and around 9 metric tonnes respectively. In the same year, the amount of carbon footprint per capita in Italy and Portugal was merely 4 and 1.5 metric tonnes respective. Noticeably, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden reached its peak in 1977, which nearly met the same record as the United Kingdom.
After 30 years from the beginning, these amounts in the United Kingdom and Sweden declined by 2 metric tonnes while the number in Italy was roughly higher than 2 times the initial index. Surprisingly, the volume of carbon dioxide emissions in Portugal made a threefold jump over a 30-year period. At the end of the period, the index of carbon dioxide emitted by a person in Sweden and Portugal had the same pattern. Finally, there is a decrease in the amount of the United Kingdom's carbon dioxide emissions from 11 metric tonnes in 1967 to 9 metric tonnes in 2007 but it still stood at the highest top among 4 nations.
