The line graph compares the changes in the average amount of carbon dioxide emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal from the years 1967 up to 2007.Units are in metric tonnes.

Overall, UK and Sweden followed a downward trend in the graph, whereas the average carbon dioxide emissions in Italy & Portugal have gradually increased over the period of 40 years.

At the beginning of the period,UK produced the most significant amount of carbon dioxide per person( about 11 metric tonnes), followed by Sweden, Italy & Portugal, which produced approximately 9, 4, 1 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide respectively. A decade later, in 1977 the carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden rose to a peak of more than 10 metric tonnes, following which it experienced a considerable fall.

After 1987, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per ca pita in Italy had outraced that in Sweden, reaching to about 8 metric tonnes in 1997, after which the figures remained constant for the duration of 10 years. At the end of the given period, the carbon dioxide production per person in Portugal and Sweden had reached the same value to less than 6 metric tonnes. However, in 2007, UK stilled produced the highest amount of carbon dioxide( about 9 metric tonnes), in comparison to the other three countries.
