The graph illustrates changes in the consumption of spreads namely margarine, low fat and reduced spreads and lastly butter in between 1981 to 2007.
In 1981, Butter was by far the most popular of these spreads, with about 142 grams usage. Margarine was eaten around 90 grams, while low fat and reduced spreads was not eaten yet.
However, during this 26 year period, the consumption of margarine and butter fell with the first one dramatically up to 50 grams and 40 grams respectively, making margarine one of the least popular spreads.
The consumption of low fat and reduced spreads, on the other hand, showed an upward trend, overtaking the butter in 2000. By 2007, it had soared to almost 70 grams.
Overall, The graph shows how the consumption of low fat and reduced spreads increased dramatically while the popularity of other spreads decreased over the period.
