The graph below shows the number of shops that closed and the number of new shops that opened in one country between 2011 and 2018.

The line graph illustrates the number of stores opening and closing in a single nation in 8 years, starting in 2011. Overall, it is clear that the number of shops opening and closing saw a fluctuation over the period of time. However, the number of shops opening was higher than that of stores closing in 2011.

In 2011, the number of outlets opening was 8500 stores, which was the highest during the time. After a considerable decline to 4000 in 2012, openings made a rebound in the next 2 years. The figure for cash and carries opening dropped slowly from 2000 in 2015, where it remained until it fell to an all-time at 3000 in 2018.

There was a vary in the number of outlets closed in the first 4 years of the period, reaching nearly the same level as openings in 2014. A considerable decrease was seen in closings to 500 stores in 2015, before rocketing to more 5000 shops in 2016. In the last two years, there was a stable number of shops closing, which was 5000 cash and carry.
