The given picture illustrates how to make electricity by water in a hydroelectric power station. In general, there are 2 main steps, starting on the day when water from high-level pool to low-level pool and finishing with water coming back from the high-level reservoir.

The first of the process, the water from rivers ran into a storage of water in the high-level pool, and it was blocked by a dam. On the day the dam was opened, water flowed downstream. This process makes turbines in the power station spinning lead to generator electricity. The generator electricity is then sent to a national grid through the power lines.

During the night stage, the electricity is lower than the day, therefore the water in low-level reservoirs was pumped to the upstream. One more time water went through turbines in the power station and made electricity. The water was stored in the high-level reservoirs until the day.
