Overall, the was a significant increase in the total number of visitors traveling to the Caribbean island in the years examined, which was the result of rises in the group of travelers staying on cruise ships and staying on the island. In addition, the number of visitors who stayed on cruise ships saw dramatic growth, surpassing the number of sightseers who stayed on the island to have the highest figure from 2015 onwards.
The total number of tourists traveling to the Caribbean island started at 1 million visitors, after which it experienced growth to the north of 2.5 million visitors in 2015, before ending the period at its peak (3.5 million visitors). The figure for the number of travelers staying on the island was approximately 0.75 million travelers in 2010, followed by stability at this point until 2011, before reaching 1.25 million visitors in 2012. Opposite changes can be seen in the figure for a group of explorers staying on cruise ships, which increased to 0.5 million explorers in 2011 (from around 0.25 million travelers in 2010), then decreased to just under 0.25 million visitors in 2012.
About 1.5 million visitors stayed on the island from 2013 to 2015, with a subsequent decline to around 1.3 million visitors in 2016, and a final increase to 1.5 million visitors in 2017. By contrast, the figure for a group of people staying on cruise ships increased dramatically from 0.5 million visitors in 2013 to about 1.5 million visitors in 2015 and surpassed the number of people staying on the island, reaching a peak of 2 million travelers in 2017.
