The line chart illustrates how many Vietnamese students studied in three different foreign countries from 2000 to 2015.
It is clear that while the number of Vietnamese students studying in France and America increased, the opposite was true for that was true in Russia. Also, the figure for America witnessed the most significant change.
In 2001, France was the most popular option for students in Vietnam to study abroad, with over 3,5 million students, in comparison with Russia and America with 3 million and 1,5 million respectively. Over the next five years, there was a decrease of approximately 1 million in the number of Vietnamese students in France and Russia. By contrast, America experienced an increase of over 2 million in the number of international students from Vietnam.
From 2005 onwards, the number of Vietnamese students studying in the US grew dramatically and reached 5 million in 2015. France also followed the upward trend after five years of stability, reaching roughly 4,5 million in the last year. During the same period, the number of Vietnamese students in Russia hit a low of below 2 million in 2010 before rising gradually to 2,5 million at the end of the period.
