The column chart presents the percentage of the population in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales that was the part-time worker in 1980 and 2010. Overall, the trend to become part-time workers was more popular in each United Kingdom country after 30 years from 1980.
Firstly, in 1980, Wales had the highest percentage of part-time workers with more than 30%, while Scotland had the lowest with just 11%. The percentage of part-time workers in England was a little bit lower than in Wales, with about 25%. In Northern Ireland, there was not too much of the population worked as a part-time worker, only 15% of this country's population worked 4 hours per day.
Secondly, there are more people in each country became a part-time worker, except in Northern Ireland. England and Wales still were the top two of the popularity in working part-time with 32% and 38% of these countries' population. There was a slight decrease in part-time workers in Northern Ireland between 1980 and 2010, from 15% to 12%. Otherwise, Scotland had a double increase between these two years, from 10% to almost 20%.
