the graph below shows the percentage of population in cities since 1970s with projection to 2030
A glance at the graph provided reveals the proportion of population in urban areas among four selected countries from 1970 to 2010 and also gives predictions up to 2030.
As can be seen clearly from the chart, the USA started off with exactly 70% of the population in cities which was higher than the figure for Korean, at about 40%. Over the next 40 years, USA and Korean witnessed a gradual increase in the people lived in urban areas in USA and Korean to nearly 90% and 85% respectively and both countries are projected to rise slightly, at roughly 90% in 2030.
However, the percentage of residents in cities in China and Indian were equal and lowest at 20% at the beginning of the period. After that, China remained constant in the proportion of population in cities before climbing to overtake the figure for Indian in 2000 and it is expected to rise over 65% in 2030. While there was a gradual increase in rate of people live in cities in India over the 40-years period and also it is predicted to continue to go up to approximately in 2030.
Overall, it is clear that there were upward trends observed in all four countries between 1970 and 2010, and all of them are projected to rise by 2030.
