The line graph gives information about the proportion of tourists using five different kinds of transportation to travel around a particular country from 1989 to 2009.

Overall, only the percentage of air travelers witnessed a fall, whereas the rest increased by varying degrees. It is also reported that cars were the most favored means of transport in most years, except for the final one, when being surpassed by rail.

Looking first at ‘car’ and ‘rail’ categories, initially, just under 50% of tourists decided to use the former for their travel. Thereafter, car usage increased significantly to a peak of 62% in 1999, before falling to 52% in the final year. Due to this fall, the popularity of car use fell from first to second place. Echoing a similar trajectory observed in the ‘car’ group, despite commencing with much lower figures, at around 34%, the ‘rail’ one registered the highest percentages of tourist usage and overtook those figures of car use in around 2006 to become the most favored means of transport.

Conversely, the proportion of air travelers, which is the only group exhibiting an decrease in its figures, started at just under 40% before ending the period at north of 20%. Coach received quite little attention from tourists, with merely 10% of users opting for it as a means of transportation in the beginning of the period. It is noteworthy that despite the second lowest starting point, ‘coach’ group exceeded ‘air’ one in around 2006 to rank the third place. Undergoing the similar pattern for the first fifteen years seen in the ‘couch’ category, it stood at 4% and reached just above 10% in 2004 before ending up with a mere 8%, which remained its lowest figures throughout the period and represented the least prevalent transport options among the five categories examined.
