The graph below shows population figures for India and China since the year 2000 and predicted population growth up until 2050
Given in the line graph is the illustration of the populations of two countries over a 50-year period. It begins in 2000 and shows predicted population figures for the year 2050. Overall, what stands out from the graph is that the populations of both countries follow a similar pattern, increasing steadily over most time, with India overtaking China, and China’s population peaking and rolling back before the end of the period.
In 2000, the number of India’s citizens started at 1 billion, while that of China’s citizens was much higher, at around 1.25 billion. Over the following years, both countries saw a quite rapid increase in population, and they are predicted to trade places in 2030. China’s growth was a little slower than that of India, and after peaking at about 1.45 billion and levelling off for around a decade, the number of China’s inhabitants will fall back to 1.4 billion by 2050.
India, on the other hand, experienced much faster population growth than China, and it is not predicted to slow down until much later. According to the graph, it will be around 2035 that India’s explosive population growth will decelerate, and it is expected that the country will have around 1.6 million people in 2050.
