The graph below shows the power generation capacity in Germany from 2008 to 2014
The line graph compares five different sources regarding electricity production that the German government opted for during a period of 6 years, commencing from 2008. Units are measured in gigawatts.
In general, there was an upward tendency in renewable sources namely wind and solar, while the opposite was true to non-renewable energy such as nuclear power, coal and oil. In addition, coal predominated for the first two years in which wind power replaced coal as the main source of power production.
Starting at around 5 in 2008, the figure of energy generated by solar soared eightfold in 2012, and then continuously rose gradually to nearly 50 in the final year. Similarly, before increasing significantly from a slight 30 in 2012 to nearly 55 at the end of the period, with a surge of 20 between 2011 and 2012, electricity produced by wind power began at over 10 in the initial year.
Coal commenced at 30 as Germany preferred source of power, followed by nuclear power at 20 and oil at roughly 5. They stabilized over a period from 2008 to 2010 before dropping insignificantly to 20, 10, and 5 respectively in the last year.
