The provided line graph illustrates the data about the proportion of the ageing population from 1940 to 2040 in three countries.
Overall, in Japan, Sweden and the USA, the number of people who is aged 65 and over is gradually increasing, and up to almost 25% by 2040.
Beginning with the figures in the year between 1940 and 2000. Generally, in this period, there was a slight fluctuation in three countries. Both Sweden and the USA had the number of older people grew significantly from about 8% up to almost 15% in the first 40 years and declined slowly to 2000. While the figure in Japan slightly decreased by 2.5%,recovered to 5% until 2000, and maintained approximately 3% from 1960 to 1983.
Since 2000, the percentage of population aged 65 and over in three countries is almost increasing. The Swedish aged population has a slowly decrease in the first 5 years. After that, Sweden and the USA have a considerably rise in the proportion of the aged. Meanwhile in Japan, this number is expected to jump sharply, which makes Japan is becoming oldest among 3 countries. In 2040, the figure of the aged 65 and more in these countries will be similar at around a quarter of total population.
