The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The supplied line graph compares the amounts of goods transported via road, water, rail and pipeline in the UK from 1974 to 2002. Overall, throughout 28-year period, the highest amount of goods was transported via road. Pipe line, on the other hand, was the least popular used despite experiencing a slight growth.
As can be seen in the graph, in 1974, nearly 70-million tonnes of goods were delivered via road, which was much higher compared to the other types of transport. Afterwards, although the figure for road witnessed a mild volatility during 1978-1995, it still peaked at approximately 100 millions at the end of the period.
In terms of water and rail, they both had the same derivation (about 40-million tonnes of goods transported). However, after 1978 until the end of period, the figure for rail trailed that for water by few units. After that, in general, the amount of goods transported via water saw a leap to arrive at well-above 60 millions tons; while that of rail quickly recovered to the same level after a fluctuated period.
Regarding the amount of goods transported via pipeline, was the least popular one. This figure experienced a marginal rise from 5 millions in 1974 to over 20 millions in 1995, which was followed by the plateau until 2002.
