The line graph provides information on the amount of goods transported by four various mode of transportation in the UK from 1974 to 2002.Units are measured in million tonnes.

It can be seen from the graph that in 1974, the highest amount of goods transported by road ways at well over 60 million tonnes, whereas the least was only around 5 million tonnes by pipeline. Meanwhile, the figures for both rail and water were almost the same amount at average 40 million tonnes in the UK.

However, the quantity of goods transported by road showed an increasing trend, which rose significantly to a peak of well under 100 million tonnes by 2002. At the same time , the amount of goods transported by ship rose slightly to reach just under 60 million tonnes in 1986, then it stabilised till 1994. But gradually figures declined dramatically in 1998, before reaching around 62 million tonnes in 2002 . Between 1978 and 1998, the products transported by rail was fluctuated and then it grew slowly in 2002. In terms of pipe line, the trend showed some differences during the period of time. It soared to roughly 24 million tonnes in 1982 and remained the constant in 1990. Interestingly, the data dropped marginally to exact 20 million tonnes in 1997 and in untill 2002.

Overall, the goods transported except by pipe line noticed a hiking trend within given period.
