The graph below shows relative price changes for fresh fruits and vegetables, sugars and sweets, and carbonated drinks between 1978 and 2009.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The changes in the cost of fresh fruits and veggies, sugar and sweets, and carbonated drinks from 1978-2009 have been demonstrated in the line graph above.

In general, three types of items witnessed an upward trend over the course of 31 years. While the price of fresh fruits and vegetables had the highest improvement, that of carbonated drinks was observed to rise very subtly.

In the earlier phase which in this case is 1979-1985, the price of fruits and vegetables fluctuated from 75% to a little above 100%. From this spot onward, it increased in bigger scales until 1991. In spite of that, there were 3 small phases in the graph which saw almost remaining figures: 1990-1993 at 175%, 1995-1998 at 212.5%, 1999-2002 at almost 250%. On the other hand, carbonated drinks were proven to rise very subtly from 75% to a bit over 150% over time. Although in earlier years before 1986, the rate of changes was very close to the other two groups, it could not keep up with the rest later on.
Furthermore, there are interesting insights into sugar and sweets that need to be pointed out. Its figure most of the time came very nearly to the consumer-price index. In fact, it was lower than the CPI’s except during 1979-1982 when sugar and sweets’ number surpassed the CPI’s a little.
