The table below gives information about changes in modes of travel in England between 1985 and 2000. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons.

The table illustrates the distance changes between 1985 and 2000 by all vehicle categories in the UK.

The first impression is that the total distance by All modes in the latter year outwon that in the former year. Another outstanding feature is that Cur was the most common means while Taxi was among the least.

In particular, there were 1607 more miles traveled by Cur in 2000. Despite the tripling figure which is 42 miles compared to the past, the number of miles by Taxi was still not as many as other modes'. In the former year, it ranked the least favored type and in the latter year was the second least only behind Bicycle. British people tended to walk and take trains to go longer distances over time while local buses became increasingly unpopular. This can be observed by its number decreasing significantly from 429 miles to 274 miles in 2000. On the other hand, besides these seven main vehicles, the average distance traveled by Other means witnessed improvement from 450 miles in 1985 to 585 miles in 2000.
