The given table illustrates the changes in ways of travel in England in 1985 and 2000 (units are measured in miles).

Overall, the distance travelled per person considering all modes of travelling in 2000 was significantly more than in 1985. However, the most popular way of travelling remains the same, which is cars, while the least in 1985 was taxi and in 2000 was bicycles.

In 1985, the English people travelled 3199 miles using cars, while in 2000 using the same way of transport they travelled 4806 miles. Local bus and train were familiar too, in 1985, people used them to travel about 429 and 289 miles respectively, meanwhile in 2000, the train was used more while local bus used less, walking was almost the same in the two given years.

The average distance travelled per person in 1985 using the long-distance bus, taxi, and train was 54,11, and 13 respectively, while in 2000 the use of bicycles declines compared with long-distance bus and train which raised to 124 and 200 respectively. Other modes also were used to travel 450 miles in 1985, and 585 in 2000.
