The table compares difference in modes of transportation used in England, in terms of miles per person per year, between the years 1985 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the total miles traveled per person per year were generally increased. However, most people in England preferred cars in both years, while taxis were the least used by travelers back then.
To commence with, in England, bicycles have lost some popularity as miles traveled using this mode decreased by 10 miles per person per year. Similarly, miles per person per year walked declined from 255 in 1985 to 237 in 2000. Likewise, the local buses which fell abruptly to almost the half.
The trend is reversed with regards to taxis which people prefer more than before and increased by 29 miles per person per year. Trains and long distant buses has faced a satisfying growth in which trains increased by more than 70 miles per person per year, while long distant bus doubled with in a 15 year period. Cars saved its place as the most preferred mean of conveyance and miles traveled per person per year were 3199 and 4800 in the years 1985 and 2000 respectively.
