The given line graph gives information about changes in price of three different food product groups in the USA during the period 1978 to 2009 and general trend in the consumer- pricing index over these 30 years.
Overall, it is clear that prices increased for all group, despite fluctuations. At a glance, the figure for price of fruits and vegetables showed a significantly higher rise than any other categories.
All the lines have the same starting point in 1979. Over the period, consumer price index climbed steadily until 1989, at which point it experienced a sudden rise and reach a peak in 1993. After that, this figure saw a sharp drop and then continued increasing gradually to nearly 200 at the end of the said period.
The prices of Sugar and sweets and fruits and vegetables showed a similar pattern. They both saw gradual rises from 1979 to 1991, then experienced some minor fluctuations and finished at roughly 300 in 2009. The figure for carbonated drinking was the lowest of all but it had a stable growth over the time and reached up to 200 by 2009.
