The graph below shows US consumers' average annual expenditures on cell phone and residential phone services between 2001 and 2010.

Write a report for a university, lecturer describing the information shown below.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph compares US residents' expenses on mobile phone and landline phone service based on yearly surveys from 2001 to 2010.

Overall, it is clearly seen that there are significant changes in the consumers' preferences on services. In particular, the percentage of the amount of money on average spending on cell phones came down drastically, while the reverse was true in the proportion of residential phone services.

Starting at the second position with $200 in 2001, the figures for cell phones increased slightly before leveling off at $300 in the second year and experiencing exponential growth in the rest of the time surveyed, from $300 to $750. By contrast, US customers' tendency in using residential phones witnessed a massive drop, from $700 to $400. Particularly, from the beginning of the period, the ratio of services of residential phones was nearly fourfold that of mobile phones; however, the figure for the former decreased sharply and intersected that of the latter at about $550.
