The graph shows the amount of fossil fuel energy generated in Europe between 1981 and 2001.
The line graph illustrates the figure for energy production by different sources in Europe over 20 years from 1981 to 2005.
In general, petroleum and natural gas witnessed an upward trend, while only coal had a downward trend. During this period, the amount of energy manufactured by petroleum accounted for the highest number of all types.
In 1981, 25 trillion units are spent on petroleum more than on natural gas and has no significant difference between the amount of coal and petroleum generated. 10 years later, coal steadily decreased from 30 to 20 trillion units and accounted for the same figure as natural gas, at 20 trillion units. Petroleum had a continual rise of 5 trillion units and remain stable in 1991, at about 40 trillion units.
Between 1991 and 2001, petroleum still increased significantly and hit a peak in 2001 from 40 to 50 trillion units. It can be seen that natural gas rise to 32 trillion units and overtook coal, more than 10 trillion units in the last period.
