The graph shows the number of marriages and divorces in the UK between 1975 and 2000
The illustration provides the figure of people who married and divorced in the United Kingdom from 1975 to 2000.
It is clear that the total number of marriages was high in comparison with those of divorces between 1975 and 2000. Besides, the proportion of divorces increased during the period of 15 years.
In the beginning year of the period, the percentage of 1st marriages and 2nd marriages accounted for about 350 and 150 thousand and those went up to 400 and 220 thousand in 1990, after which those fell by about 350 and over 200 thousand in 1995. In addition to, within the period of 5 years from 1995 to 2000, there was decrease for the number of people who married with over 300 thousand in 2000 while the opposite was true for those who divorced, about over 250 thousand in 2000.
In 1995, the figure of 1st marriages was highest, followed by those of 2nd marriages, about nearly 350 and 150 thousand. Furthermore, the number of divorces was lowest with under 100 thousand. The proportion of divorces was twice smaller than those of 1st marriages in 1985, particularly 200 and 400 thousand and stayed the same stable with those of 2nd marriages in 1990, about 220 thousand.
