The line graph given offers insights into the number of marriages and divorces in the United Kingdom, measured in thousands, from 1975 to 2000.
Most strikingly, while the figures for total marriages, second marriages and divorces experienced upward trends, the opposite was true of that for first marriages. Besides, the widest discrepancy was between the number of first marriages and divorces.
As can be seen from the line graph, in initial, the increase in second marriages and divorces was significant, reaching 230 thousand and 200 thousand respectively by the end of 1985. In the next five years, both figures started to merge at the point of roughly 230 thousand, however, in 1995 while there was a slight increase in the number of divorces, the data for second marriages decreased to 200 thousand. The remainder witnessed both figures joining up again at the peak of roughly 250 thousand in 2000.
With regard to the total marriages and the first marriages, in the first 10 years, there were remarkable increases in their figures. Over the half end of the period surveyed, there was a similar pattern between the total marriages and the first marriages in which both data decreased moderately, reaching 550 thousand and 350 thousand respectively.
