The graph shows the production of main fuels in the UK between 1986 and 2000.
The line graph gives information about the amount of petroleuim, coal and natural gas produced in the UK over the 14-year period, starting from 1996.
Overall, it is evident that both the production of petroleum and natural gas increased over the mentioned period, while that of coal experienced an upward trend. In addition, the quantity of produced petroleum was always the highest during the period.
In 1996, 120 million tons of petroleum was made in the UK, which doubled the amount of natural gas. In the same year, the figure for coal was around 110 million tons. By 1991, while the manufacture of petroleum increased to 140 million tons, that of coal witnessed a drop to only 80 million tons. Meanwhile, the quantity of produced natural gas remained stable, at 60 million tons.
From 1991 to 1995, the situation was reverse regarding petroleum and coal. Whereas the quantity of petroleum produced fell back to 120 million tons, there was a slight rise by about 10 million tons in the amount of coal. Simultaneously, natural gas production still leveled off at 60 million tons. By the year 2000, whilst the amount of petroleum manufactured went up until peaking at just over 140 million tons, that of coal to only 60 million tons, which was the lowest figure in 2000. Regarding natural gas, its production saw a dramatic increase of 60 million tons from 1995 to 2000.
