The graphs below provide information on global population figures and figures for urban populations in different world regions.
The line graph compares the world population growth from 1800 to 2100, and the bar chart illustrates urban population in two different regions between 2015 and 2040.
It is clear that urban population in developing regions is expected to increase considerably. Additionally, we can predict that global population will see a fluctuation in the future.
According to the line graph, the world population was around 1000 million people in the year 1800. After that, the rate of the population growth went up slightly and reached approximately 2000 million people in 1920. From 1940 to 2040, it has experienced a dramatic rise and is expected to reach the highest point of 8000 million people in 2040. However, there will be a sharp fall in the last 60 years, and global population will reach just above 6000 million people in 2100.
Looking at urban population bar chart, we can see that urban population in developed regions will remain stable from 1000 million people in 2015 to 1300 million in 2040. By contrast, predictions show that this figure in developing regions will grow considerably and reach 4000 million in 2040.
