Jenny is conducting a research project on cell phone use. The chart shows the percentage of students, and parents of students, at Jenny’s school who owned cell phone over a 14 year period. The table provides the cell phone ownership rate nationwide over the same timeframe.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The study conducted by Jenny shows two different data sets for the percentage of people who owned a smartphone. The graph shows the given study conducted at Jenny's school on the students and their parents for each year from 2002 till 2016. The table shows the study conducted on entire nation's populace over the given years of 2002, 2010 and 2016.
From the above graph, it can be inferred that for each year, the percentage of students who owned a cell phone in Jenny's school was always less than the percentage of their parents. Also, the ownership percentage for both the demograph has increase for each subsequent year in the given 14 year duration.
In 2002, the difference in percentage of cell phone ownership for parents and their children was almost 50 percent. This trend is continued till 2012, with the percentage of both demographs increasing steadily. After 2012, there is a dramatic spike in the percentage of students owning a cell phone, with the difference diminishing. By 2016, this difference has diminised to almost 10 percent.
The table also shows an increase in nationwide ownership of smartphone for given years, with 2002 having the lowest ownership percentage and 2016 having the highest ownership one. Both the graph and table has their least and highest recorded data in the years 2002 and 2016 respectively.
