Overall, it is clear that the total amount of acid rain emissions in the UK fell considerably from 1990 to 2007. Another noticeable trend is that the most dramatic changes were seen in the Electricity, gas and water supply sector.
In 1990, under 3,5 million tons of acid rain were produced by electricity, gas and water supply, compared to transport/communication and domestic were similar at about 0.7 million tons each. However, the amount of acid rain release by electricity, gas and water supply plummeted over the next 17 years, reaching only 0,5 million tons in 2007. A similar trend can be seen in Domestic and transport/communication, with the figure hitting above nearly 0.3 million ton and around 0.7 million ton respectively at the end.
Similarly, there was a gradually decline in the amount of acid rain emissions by the other countries from over 2 million ton in 1991 to approximately 1.3 million ton by 2007.
