The given line graph depicts the information about the size of population and also compares the fertility rate and mortality rate of England and Wales between 1700 to 2000.
Overall, it is manifest from the graph that the population showed an upward trend, whereas the birth rate and death rate followed a fluctuating trend.
The growth of population was 2.5 million in 1700, which remained stable at 10 million from 1750 to 1800. After a short period of stability, the population grew significantly from 10 million to 50 million in 2000.
From 1700 to 1750, an increase was seen in birth and death rates, with the birth rate rising from 30 to 40 births per 1000 people and death rate rising from 27 to 37 per 1000 people. There was a stability in both rates for the next 50 years, after which there was a sharp decline in birth rate and death rate and reached at a level of around 20 per 1000 people. In between, from 1850 to 1900, birth and death rates figures were again levelled off. From 1950 to 2000, the death rate remained the same at 20 per 1000 people but the birth rates increased rapidly, from 22 to 35 births per 1000 people.
