The line graph reveals information on the amount of three kinds of spread (margarine, low fat and reduced spreads and butter) which were consumed over 26 years from 1981 to 2007. Units are measured in grams.
From an overall perspective, one of the most outstanding features is that there was a fluctuation in the consumption of margarine and low fat & reduced spreads between 1981 and 2007, whereas there was a downward trend in the consumption of butter at the same time. By the year 1981, the figure given for butter appeared to be by far the highest one among the three chosen spreads, with over 140 grams which was followed by a similar figure recorded for margarine, with about 90 grams. The consumption of low fats and reduced spreads do not appear in 1981.
It is interesting to note that the number of butter was slight growth between 1981 and 1986, from 140 grams to 160 grams. But it decreased dramatically during the years 1986 - 1996, from about 160 grams to almost 70 grams then continued its downward trend roughly 50 grams by the year 2007. Similarly, after fluctuated slightly between 1986 and 1996, the quantity of margarine dropped significantly to 40 grams by the year 2007.
Surprisingly, the consumption of low fats and reduces spreads only started in 1996 at about 10 grams. Then, it increased dramatically between 1996 and 2001, with about 85 grams - an exponential growth of almost 8 times. The years 2001 - 2007 experienced a drop slightly the number of low fat & reduced spreads, from 80 grams to 70 grams - stood at the highest one.
