Overall, In 1981, Butter spreads consumption is the highest, whereas, Margarine spreads consumption is the lowest. Lowfat and reduced Spreads introduced in 1996 had the highest consumption by 2007 while Margarine spreads were the least consumed.
To begin, Butter spreads started at an overwhelming 140 grams in 1981. This figure raised steadily to reach a peak of 160 grams by 1986. From this point, the graph drastically plummeted down over the years finally reaching 50 grams by 2007. As for Margarine spreads, the graph started at 90 grams which saw a downward trend till 1986 and an upward trend for the next five years. This number remained stable till 1996 and then decreased steadily to 40 grams by the final year.
In terms of Lowfat and reduced spreads, the graph started at 10 grams which gradually rose to just over 80 grams by 2001. This figure then dropped to 70 grams in 2007.
