The line graph shows the details of the U.S. Energy Consumption by different fuel types from the year 1980 to 2030. Summarise the given chart with important details and their features.
The line graph allows us to see the energy consumption in the U.S. by a range of fuel types (Petrol and Oil, Coal and Natural gas, Nuclear, Solar/wind, and hydropower) from 1980 to 2019, with their predicted consumption by 2030. The consumption units are measured in Quadrillion(q).
Overall, fossil fuel types have been used dominantly since 1980 where renewable energy sources have been in the category of least used energy sources since 1980. Despite their usage in small proportion, nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower are significant sources of energy though they are projected with small gains in the future.
Petrol and Oil have been the most consumed energy source with 35q used in 1980, increasing to approximately 40q in 2019 and projected to rise up to approximately 40q by 2030. In 1980, natural gas and coal came to be the second and third with around 16q and 20q respectively. Although coal showed some fluctuations, it overtook natural gas before 2015 and is set to increase close to 30q by 2030. It is estimated that natural gas will remain constant to approximately above 20q from 2015 to 2030.
Nuclear, solar/wind and hydropower all indicated around 4q in 1980. While nuclear and solar/wind energy continued to rise after some fluctuations between the years 1980 and 2008, the hydropower levels off at approximately 3q after 2010. It is estimated that nuclear will be just above 5q and wind/solar will be around 5q in 2030.
