The map below show the center of a small town called Islip as it is now and plans for its development
The maps illustrate the present central area of a town called Islip and its site after the projected development took place.
Overall, it is evident that the most principal change is the construction of a dual carriageway encompassing the town centre. Another striking development is the addition of housing, commercial and traffic facilities.
In the present, it is clearly seen that there was a main road crossing Islip in East-West direction, with two lines of shops located in both sides of it. This main road is in close proximity to the countryside in the North and the housing area in the South, which can be reached from two smaller lanes, built to the East and West of it. While the one to the East leads to a school and another residential site, a park was located at the end of the other.
If the plan for develoment is to take place, the central area of Islip will transform completely. As mentioned, a circular dual carriageway will be surrounding the town centre, leading to the disappeance of the countryside. The main road will also be pedestrianized and to the North of it, there will be a bus stop, a shopping centre, a car park and a newly-added housing area. More houses is projected to be built on the South part of the town, making the size of the park reduced tremendously. Moreover, there will be no changes made to the school.
