The maps below show the layout of James Park in 2017 and the proposed changes to the park in 2027.
The maps demonstrate the current layout of James park, and a view of the park after a renovation to be completed by 2027 that promises to attract more park users.
Overall, the map of James Park in its 2017 configuration shows a park that is oriented towards children. It includes two playgrounds and a science center, connected by a walkway that passes by a fountain and a statue. The 2027 renovation will add some mixed-age attractions such as a theater, an athletics facility and a garden. An expanded network of paths will connect these new attractions.
The science center will change dramatically over this 10-year period as its size will nearly double. By contrast, the playspace for small children will decrease at the park. In 2017, the park had two playgrounds, one of which was intended for very small children. This playground will be replaced by a theater. The regular playground will also be clipped somewhat due to the addition of a gymnasium. To gain entry into each of these new buildings, the system of sidewalks now encircles the statue and fans out in each direction.
