The picture shows the different stages involved in the process of recycling used glass bottles. The process explained in the picture extends from the collection of wasted glass bottles to the product ready for sale in supermarkets.
The first stage starts when wasted glass bottles are brought into a collection point and after that are transported to a glass factory.
In the second stage glass bottles are cleaned with high-pressure water and sorted depending on their colour, which can be brown, green or clear. In the glass factory the wasted bottles are transformed into glass pieces that are burned in a furnace at high temperature, between 600C and 800C. This recycled liquid glass is mixed with new liquid glass and this preparation is shaped in glass moulds to produce new bottles.
During the last stages bottling takes place, where new bottles are filled with different beverages and finally the finished product is delivered to stores ready to be sold.
