The given pie chart represents the causes of land degradation and the table illustrates the percentage of total land deteriorated by these causes in three different regions during 1990s.

Overall, a higher percentage of damage to the land is usually caused by over-grazing than deforestation or over-cultivation.

From the pie chart, it can be seen that 35 % of agricultural land degrade as a result of over-grazing . Deforestation is accounted for 30 % of deterioration of cultivable land whereas over-cultivation contributes 28 % to the land degradation. All other reasons cause only minor damage to the land.

The table shows that 23 % of land in Europe become less productive during 1990s. This is the largest amount of land deteriorated among all three regions. Only 5 % of total land in North America were negatively affected by agricultural practices whereas this number is 13 % in Oceania. In Oceania over-cultivation did not damage the land at all while the major cause of why land became unproductive in this region was over-grazing.
