The pie chart indicates the causes which affect negatively the productivity of agriculture lands while the table illustrates the percentage of land degradation in separated three areas due to those factors mentioned in the 1990s.
Overall, over-grazing is the primary reason which results in the global land degradation. It is clearly seen that from the table that Europe had the highest proportion of total land degraded than the other two regions.
Looking at the details, there are four reasons why agriculture land become less productive. Over-grazing accounted for the largest percentage among four reasons with 35%. Deforestation came in second place, at 30% and 28% of international land degradation belonged to over-cultivation while only 7% for other reasons.
Regarding to the table, there are some difference about the main causes of less production of land in three regions and how they affect the land’s production. Europe is badly degraded by 23% which was constituted from 9.8% of deforestation, 7.7% of over-cultivation and 5.5% of over-grazing. The total land degraded in Oceania was 13%, in detail, deforestation made of 1.7% and over-grazing was 11.3%; surprisingly over-cultivation did not influence in the land degradation in this region. The percentage of land degraded in North America was 5% with the proportion of deforestation, over-cultivation and over-grazing was 0.2%, 0.3% and 1.5% respectively.
