The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The graphs demonstrate the prime causes of worldwide land degredation and the effects of these problems in North America, Europe and Oceania in 1990s.

Overall, it can be seen clearly that the degradation in Europe was more severe than other parts of the world, and worldwide degredation was caused mostly by over-grazing.

On a global scale, the excessive of animal grazing and crops cultivation were the biggest reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive, accounting for 35% and 30% of global degredation respectively. Not far behind, 28% of land degredation in the world was caused by deforestation.

These causes affected the farming land in North America, Europe and Oceania in different ways. 9.8% land degradated in Europe was due to deforestation, while the effect was minimal in North America (0.2%) and Oceania (1.7%). Over-cultivation also saw a big impact in Europe as 7.7% of degredation was caused by this reason. On the other hand, over-grazing was the main reason for degredation in Oceania with a whooping number of 11.3%. Europe was the region least affected by these causes, as only 5% of agricultural land was degredated.
