The majority of Vietnamese exports were the products of primary industry (agriculture and fishing), with coffee ($23 million) and vegetables and fruit ($16 million) being the main exports. Rice and seafood were also important exports contributing $4.3 and $4.4 million respectively. The least important were garments and other at $2 million each.
In the second pie chart it can be seen that more than half of the American exports were industrial products. The largest category of US exports was aircraft parts, which were worth $20 million more than the total value of Vietnamese exports. This was followed by other products ($35 million) and machinery ($30.5 million). Fertiliser, cotton and cars made up the remaining $34.5 million.
Overall, Vietnam exported products worth $52m to the US, while the US exported products worth more than three times this to Vietnam ($172m).
