Overall, people in the UK spend more for rent than other categories. By contrast, spending on food account for the largest proportions of living cost in the US.

The percentage of spending on rent in the UK and America is 30% and 20% respectively. Meanwhile, there are 25% of expenses in the US and 18% of cost in the UK are spend on food. Only 12% of the cost of living in the UK is spend on books and the figure for America is 15%.

Both American and British spend 10% of there living cost for DVDs. While people in the UK spend 15% of their expenditures on going out, just like people in the US. Finally, the proportion of total expenses spending on transport in the great Britain and America is the same with 15%.
