The graph illustrates information about how many people used three kind of British airports (Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted) for travelling purpose over a five-year period from 1998 and 2003. Units are measured in millions.
Overall, the number of people who travelled in Heathrow fluctuated, while the others experienced upward trends over the whole period in question.
With regard to Heathrow, the figure began at 27.2 in 1998, and then it reached a peak of 48.2 in the next two years. At this point, the number of travellers dropped to 37.1 in 2001, which meant the it had far less number than the other airports. Having fallen marginally to 33.2 in 2002, the trend then recovered to 45.6 in the final year.
In contrast, as for Gatwich airport, it serviced 36.5 travellers in 1998. Subsequently. the figure rose steady, peaking at 69.3 in 2003. Similarly, Stansfed airport registered 17.3 travellers in the first year of the period. Despite increasing substantially till 2001, the number of people then remained stable at 43.3 in the following two years.
