Overall, the figures for population aged 65 and older in 3 countries all follow an upward trend over the period shown. Also, the share of that in Germany is always the highest of 3 nations.
Looking at the chart in more detail, we can see that people aged 65 and over accounted for 20% of Germany’s total population in 1988, in comparison with 16% and 14% recorded in that of Canada and the UK, respectively. In the next 12 years, the share of the persons aged 65 and above in Germany slightly increased, constituting up to a quarter of this country’s total population. Meanwhile, the rate of people in the 65 and older age bracket in Canada and the UK showed a gentle growth of 5% and only 1%, correspondingly.
Over the following 30 years, the percentage of citizens in the 65 and above age group are forecast to make up 30% of Germany’s total population, the highest figure shown on the table. In the meantime, this period witnessed a rise to 26% and 20% in the proportion of those aged 65 and over in Canada and the UK, respectively
