The table gives information of the numbers of employees working in four sectors in terms of age groups in the UK over an 8 years period.
It is immediately apparent that different changes can be seen in different sectors and ages, and, in particular a huge rise showed in technology.
In 1998, education was the most popular employment sector, almost all the age groups witnessed a largest number, excepted the 18-25 age group, which was second smallest number, at 6388. Building has a considerably more employees in the 36-45 age group, more than twice as many as that of other age groups, at 21555. Hotel & catering has a relatively more balanced figure in the age below 45 and it dropped significantly when the age above 46. The numbers of workers in technology fields were relatively lower than other sectors, especially in terms of the people aged 56 to 65, only 800.
When time went to 2006, numbers of employees worked in the technology fields rocketed in all age groups, and the largest number occurred in 26-35 group, at 454375. In contrast, building saw a reverse pattern, dropping in all age groups. It should be noticed that there were more older workers employed in hotel & catering, increasing for more than on third. The figures regarding education remained relatively stable.
