Overall, the number of students in total was seen with a sharp increase over the given years. Also, an upward trend was witnessed in all types of funding, except for other sources
In 2003/04, out of total 572 509 overseas students, 67% of them were supported by themselves or their families. Funding from US college or university was received by 134 015 students which comprised only 23% of the total. Foreign government or university, current employer and other sources supported no more than 30 000 students each, which were not over 5% of the total
In 2013/14, personal and family still remained as the main financial source with 574 129 students, accounting for 65% of the total 886052 students. Remarkably, while there was the highest increase of 390% in students supported by current employer, an only decrease of 14% was seen in the figure of other sources.
