The table below shows the production of cacao beans in six regions between 1992 and 1998.
The table compares the quantity of cacao beans produced in different parts of the world from 1992 to 1998.
Overall, between 1992 and 1994, South America was the top producer of cacao beans but it was replaced by Asia from 1996 to 1998. It is also noticeable that the production of cacao beans in Asia saw the most significant growth in the given period.
In 1992, South America produced the highest number of cacao beans at 143,000 tons and this figure dropped to a low of 112,000 tons in 1996, before increasing to 389,000 tons in 1998. Asia's production started at 119,000 tons, then rose continuously to reach a peak of 436,000 tons in the final year. Similarly, Oceania's figure began at 40,000 tons and climbed consistently for the succeeding years to hit a high of 77,000 tons at the end of the period.
The production of cacao beans in Africa was the lowest at the beginning of the period at 29,000 tons and this, then, went up to 119,000 tons in 1996, before reducing to 25,000 tons in 1998, which remain to be the lowest figure. In North America, the amount of cacao being produced started and ended with the same figure at 46,000 tons, while in England it hovered between 43,000 and 67,000 throughout the period.
